Cling Wrap Background

This technique could be used on a scrapbook page, a greeting card or on an artist trading card, or in an art journal/ It is so easy to do. And more than likely, you have most of the supplies you need already in your stash, It is a fun technique. Almost like finger painting. You can use almost any colors that make you happy. I would use very heavy paper for this technique since you will be adding acrylic paint to it. If you are doing this technique on a book page, I would cover the page with two three coats of gesso. Or Glue two pages together to give the page more weight before you get started. Start with a roll of plastic wrap (cling wrap) and then you chose the medium to work with. It will work on all kinds of media. Acrylic Paint Supplies Sheet of heavy card stock or watercolor paper   Craft mat to cover your work surface. Two plastic cups or containers to hold paint and water. Cling or saran wrap Foam brush or soft paintbrush Rubber Gloves  Paper towels Cover your wor...

Creative Watercolor Greeting Cards

Today's tutorial is all about being creative with media that you might not think about using to create colorful and exciting greeting cards. Once again, welcome to my journey as I move through the Altenew Educator classes. I love sharing my journey with you. That was the purpose of my going through this program. I wanted to be able to share new techniques and ideas with the community.  The media that I am sharing today is the Altenew reinkers. Have you ever thought about using reinkers as a color medium? Any reinkers are good for this technique. But for me, I have found that the Altenew reinkers have the most vibrant color options. All you will need are some reinkers, some paint brushes and some watercolor paper.  These cards use heat embossing to create a "cradle" or outline that allow you to use reinkers as watercolor mediums. You will want to use a good smooth watercolor paper to get the best results.  You will want to have a "well" to color in, so each of th...

Beautiful Detailed Greeting Card

Beautiful Detail was a class in my Altenew Academy Level 2 course. If you have been following along with me, each class brings me closer to being an accredited instructor. My goal was to  be able to share all the things that I have been learning with the community both here and on Facebook.  This class helped me to focus on the intimate detail of each stamped image. This technique takes you beyond just stamping layered images. It helps you add more detail in your own way to create a one-of-a-kind project that showcases your art. For this project, I focused on using both crisp dye inks and colored pencils. There are so many ways to achieve this look. You could also use alcohol markers or pens. You might try watercolor pens as well. As you are considering the media that you want to use, you will want to also consider the paper as well. Depending on what you decide to use to give the ...

Feminine Card Collection

I am continuing my journey in the Altenew Educator course with this collection of cards on the feminine side. I am sharing my collection today in hopes that you really look at the stamps and die cuts that you have and create something from your heart to share with another. The Stamp/Stencil Set For This Project The stamp set that I used is part of a collection set from Altenew called the Folk Flowers Stencil and Die Bundle. The actual flower and leaf images are created with a layered stencil set. The stencil set is marked with numbers 1-3. That way you will always know to use the right one in each step of your project. The stamp set included in the bundle gives detail to the leaves and flowers. There are also sentiment stamps included. A die is part of the package that allows you to cut the flowers and leaves very quickly and easily.  Tips For Using Layered Stencils Make sure to use a low tack tape to tape your stencil to the paper as well as to the workspace. You can also use pixi...

Irresistible Inking Ideas

My journey down the road through the Educator Program at Altenew Academy has taken into many directions. But my current class on irresistible inking techniques.  has been one of the most fun and engaging classes yet. It used some new ideas and combined them with things we had learned in previous classes. I love using my ink pads to create something different and unique. Before you use any ink on these images, you need to emboss the image onto your paper. That is a simple process of using an embossing ink to stamp the image, using a embossing powder and a heat gun to melt and dry the applied embossing powder. Using embossing ink and powder gives you a base to add color that will not smudge once you get started on irresistible inking.  For this project, I used the Altenew Fresh Bloom Layering Stamp Set. There is more than one way to use this set. You can choose to use all of the layers or just a couple as I did. In this case, I colored the base of the flowers with Pink Pearl Cri...
