Free SVG Files

SVG files are most often used with an electronic cutting machine. They are vector files that create images and projects when used with a computer program like Cricut Design Space and the Silhouette program. Check with the program for your cutting machine to see how to load these images into your program.

What You Should Know About SVG And Their Use

While I am not a lawyer, there are a few rules to the use of SVG files that are known to users that you should be familiar with before you load any images into your electronic cutting machine.

Copyrights And Licenses

The images are owned by whoever created them. Sometimes they allow you to use their files for free or sometimes for a fee, They own the copyright to their work, They allow you to use their work and this is called a license. Technically, if they catch you using their work without a license (their permission to do so) they can sue you for damages, In this digital world, it is actually simple to do a reverse image search and you can get found out.

The first license to understand is called Creative Commons. This means it is free to use for both personal and commercial use.

A personal license means that you can use the file to create projects for your own use or to give as gifts.
Under this type of license, you cannot share this file in any way with a friend or on a Facebook site. And you cannot make anything to sell with this license. Most free SVG files fall under this category with some exceptions. If you want to share a file, you can share the link of the page where you found it.

A commercial license allows you to make these and sell the items that you made with the file, Most times you will pay for this license. Often they are given a limited amount on that license. So, it is up to you to keep an accurate count of products made and sold. You cannot share this file in any way.

Remember too, if you upload product logos like Pepsi, Coke, Starbucks ect, you are violating their copyright and can be held accountable,

Most designers and sites will tell you their policy for their files. Remember to do the right thing and you can never go wrong,

How To Get SVGS

Each site has its own ways for you to find free SVGs. Some have picture groupings where you can select the image and download it right away, Others require you to load the freebies into a cart. It is just one or two extra steps. Some will have you sign up for a newsletter in order to get a password to a vault or treasury where the freebies are held. You decide what interests you and go for it.

*Some of the listings may have affiliate earnings at no cost to you.

Beyond Basic Backgrounds

Today we are exploring back grounds for greeting cards using stamps and coordinating dies with embossing powders to create a totally different look. Welcome to another community tutorial as I take my journey through the Altenew Educator Class. I have to say that I love the soft look of these greeting cards.  For this technique you will need a stamp set with the coordinating dies. You will actually create a stencil using the dies for the image that you are using on your background. To create this stencil, you will want to use a heavy white cardstock, at least 90 Lbs. or more. That way, you will be able to use the stencil again. You also will want to make the stencil a bit larger than the actual card base. Overlapping will give you the best results. What It Takes To Create An Advanced Ink Layering Technique

Today we are sharing with you some advanced ideas and techniques in ink layering. We are also sharing some additional ideas to help you take your greeting cards to the next level. We are featuring a new tutorial as part of my Level Three accreditation in the AECP (Altenew Educator Certification Program). This is a program that I have been working through for some time. My goal has been to be able to learn and share with you the best ideas and techniques to help you be the best paper crafter you can be.  There are actually 5 levels of layering classes in this program. The project that I am focusing on is a more intricate stamp set called. Climbing Clematis.  There are actually 6 layers to the main flowers and several layers to each of the coordinating flowers. The coordinating flowers add a natural touch to the design.  Here are some of the techniques that I am focusing on for this tutorial: All About Layering 1-5 All About Layering Dies Edition Layering Guides Layering guides are an es

Cute Unicorn Card

Today I need to create a bright and cheerful birthday card for my great granddaughter who is turning three. I wanted something that would express her great grandpa's and my love for her. We also wanted something that would catch her attention. The stamp set was one that I got from a magazine. It was one of those sets that often is included when you get stamping magazines. So, I am unable to identify it. It also had the hearts, flowers and a mouse and dolphin (more about the dolphin on another day. The set also had some dies for the animals, but not for the flowers.
