DIY Craft Supplies- Recipes And Ideas

We all have a budget of some sort for our craft supplies. I know personally how easy it is to go over what we intended to spend. But there are ways to save a lot of money making a few supplies on our own. Many of the things that are used in these ideas, you have in your home or are readily accessible.

These are my favorites that I have collected from all over. Since you will need a few jars to store these in, start recycling ! I love to recycle when I craft !

Blender Ink Refill For Blender Pens

You will need a small bottle that has a dropper. Reusing old reinker bottle that have been washed so there is no color in them are perfect. Anything with a dropper will work.

2 teaspoons of glycerin ( you can get this where they sell cake supplies or on Amazon)
4 teaspoons of distilled water
1/4 teaspoon of rubbing alcohol
Mix all the ingredients in the bottle. Shake the bottle to mix them. Refill your pen following the manufacturers directions

Pick Up Sticks

Gesso

I use a lot of gesso in my art journals. I go through a lot of it, Here is an easy recipe for making your own.

1 part white glue (Elmers is my preferred)
3 parts water (cut that to 2 parts if you are using cheaper glue)
6 parts baby powder
1 Tablespoon of titanium white acrylic paint
Mix well in an air tight container. It should be the thickness of pancake batter and store in an airtight container. Stir well before use.

Glue Dots

Acrylic sheets or the paper back sheets from labels
Aleene Tack It Over And Over Glue

Just place glue dots in the size that you want them on the acrylic or backing sheet, Just leave them to dry. The tinier ones will take an hour or so. The larger ones can take up to 36 hours to cure. Place another sheet of non stick paper on the top. I store them in zip lock bags

DIY Mod Podge

I love Mod Podge. But there are times when I run out and this recipe will save you a lot of hassle

You will need a jar to mix and store it in.

1 cup of glue and 1 cup of water. Put the lid on the jar and shake it well. I would give it a shake again before I used it.

Stamp Cleaner

1 cup of distilled water
1 teaspoon of baby wash
2 tablespoons glycerin

Add the glycerin to the water and stir. Stir in the baby wash. Pour into a spray bottle that you have recycled.

Texture Paste

Adds 3 D effects to cards, scrapbook pages and art journals. It can be colored before it's applied with chalks, inks or paints. Can be used with stencils, applied with a palette knife, and used with tools to create your own textures.

Mix one part white acrylic paint with 1/2 part white glue or mod podge. Then add 1 part either talcum powder or baking soda. Stir well and store in an air tight container.

Beyond Basic Backgrounds

Today we are exploring back grounds for greeting cards using stamps and coordinating dies with embossing powders to create a totally different look. Welcome to another community tutorial as I take my journey through the Altenew Educator Class. I have to say that I love the soft look of these greeting cards.  For this technique you will need a stamp set with the coordinating dies. You will actually create a stencil using the dies for the image that you are using on your background. To create this stencil, you will want to use a heavy white cardstock, at least 90 Lbs. or more. That way, you will be able to use the stencil again. You also will want to make the stencil a bit larger than the actual card base. Overlapping will give you the best results. We are featuring a new tutorial as part of my Level Three accreditation in the AECP (Altenew Educator Certification Program). This is a program that I have been working through for some time. My goal has been to be able to learn and share with you the best ideas and techniques to help you be the best paper crafter you can be.  There are actually 5 levels of layering classes in this program. The project that I am focusing on is a more intricate stamp set called. Climbing Clematis.  There are actually 6 layers to the main flowers and several layers to each of the coordinating flowers. The coordinating flowers add a natural touch to the design.  Here are some of the techniques that I am focusing on for this tutorial: All About Layering 1-5 All About Layering Dies Edition Layering Guides Layering guides are an es
