If you are a paper crafter like me, then you are a fan of Mod Podge! There are so many uses for this wonderful adhesive. No matter if you are a beginner or advanced user of Mod Podge, here are our 10 Mod Podge tips to get better results using this product every time.
- Always apply Mod Podge to both the surface of the project as well as the surface of the materials you are adhering to. That way you will be assured to get the best adhesion with no lifting.
- Make sure to clean and or sand the surface before you start the project. The Mod Podge will adhere better.
- Always smooth out any bubbles with a brayer or a squeegee right away. While the Mod Podge is wet, go over the adhered pieces with the brayer. Work from the center outward.
- When you are covering the outside of a project, apply the first layer of Mod Podge with side-to-side strokes. Allow drying for 20 minutes. Then apply a second coat with up and down strokes. That will give you the smoothest possible finish.
- Always allow the Mod Podge to cure before using the finished product. Curing time varies, so check the back of the bottle of the product you are using for a specific drying time.
- When possible, use Mod Podge brushes. They have soft bristles that will give you the best results. Foam brushes are another alternative that works well. They can be washed and reused.
- When possible, use a laser printer for any photo or printed material.
- If you have to use an inkjet printer, spray the photo or print with an acrylic spray sealer and allow to dry before proceeding with the project.
- Never use photo paper for any project that you are planning to use Mod Podge. Always have the image on computer paper. The Mod Podge needs to soak through the paper. It will not go through the photo paper.
- Use at least two coats of Mod Podge on your project. Three is better. Allow curing time before using.
