Layering Class #3 -Whimsical Flowers

Greeting card made from the Whimsical Flower set by Altenew

My journey with learning layering techniques continues with the Whimsical Flowers Stamp Set from Altenew. I have to tell you that this set was a lot of fun. There are several flower sets to choose from, plus leaves and tiny flowers to round out the set.

Layering may seem difficult when you first see those amazing images. Once you get the hang of using these amazing stamp sets, you will never want to back to flat images again.

For starts all of the Altenew layering sets have guides as to which stamp goes in what order. The guide will also show you how to use specific points on the design so that your layering stamps are always placed in the right spot. If the layering guide is not on the packaging, you can always print a copy off the Altenew website under freebies.

Having a color family makes a difference too. You select a base color first. This is always your lightest color. Then with each additional stamp you go to the next darker shade. You use as many colors as you have stamps with the last stamp being your outline stamp.

The layering itself is very easy to do. Once you stamp the base layer in black, there is no problem adding the top layer in the ink color of your choice. Masking is easy to accomplish. Just stamp a copy of your first set on some masking paper or a post-it notes, when you stamp the side flowers, you just cover the first with your mask. Leave the mask on for the top layers as you stamp the color on the side flowers. Then just use the top layer stamp on the first flower.

This set makes the process super easy as it comes with the center of the flowers also. I have had difficulty in the past with these types of flowers, but it all came together with this set.

  1. The white stamped piece was 4 1/4 by 4 1/4inches.
  2. That was stamped and mounted to a piece 5 by 5 inches with double-sided tape.
  3. I applied foam tape under that.
  4. Those pieces were applied to a piece 5 1/4 by 5 1/4inches.
  5. That was applied to a card base which was 6 by 6 inches.
  6. The sentiment was applied to the top of the card with the double-sided tape.

In the second version, I used some of the little flowers that came with the set. I also fussy cut some extra flowers and raised them up off the base to give some extra dimension to the card. There is ao much variety with this set of stamps.

I can see myself using them for backgrounds and embellishments on my scrapbook pages and in my journals.

Thank you for sharing my adventure with the Whimsical Flowers Stamp Set

As always, Happy Crafting!

Beyond Basic Backgrounds

Today we are exploring back grounds for greeting cards using stamps and coordinating dies with embossing powders to create a totally different look. Welcome to another community tutorial as I take my journey through the Altenew Educator Class. I have to say that I love the soft look of these greeting cards.  For this technique you will need a stamp set with the coordinating dies. You will actually create a stencil using the dies for the image that you are using on your background. To create this stencil, you will want to use a heavy white cardstock, at least 90 Lbs. or more. That way, you will be able to use the stencil again. You also will want to make the stencil a bit larger than the actual card base. Overlapping will give you the best results. We are featuring a new tutorial as part of my Level Three accreditation in the AECP (Altenew Educator Certification Program). This is a program that I have been working through for some time. My goal has been to be able to learn and share with you the best ideas and techniques to help you be the best paper crafter you can be.  There are actually 5 levels of layering classes in this program. The project that I am focusing on is a more intricate stamp set called. Climbing Clematis.  There are actually 6 layers to the main flowers and several layers to each of the coordinating flowers. The coordinating flowers add a natural touch to the design.  Here are some of the techniques that I am focusing on for this tutorial: All About Layering 1-5 All About Layering Dies Edition Layering Guides Layering guides are an es
