Tags aged with shoe polish and chalk pastels |
I recently saw an aging technique that used something to age paper that I never would have thought of. Instead of using distress ink to age a tag or a page, she was actually using of all things, brown shoe polish. I was very surprised at this idea and decided to give it a go, Shoe polish after all is a lot more economical than distress ink.
I was really surprised at the results. I had a bunch of white tags and some journal pages that I wanted to give a try. But I wanted to add my own twist to the idea. So, I had some chalk pastels and I added those to the background for some added color,
This gets a bit messy, so you may want to wear some gloves for the project. It is a lot of fun though. You apply shoe polish with a sponge or a makeup wipe. You could use a brush or a blending tool, Then I applied the chalk pastels to the project. I really rubbed them into the paper, then dusted them off. Finally, I added some more shoe polish. Then added whatever I had around to finish them off,

For some of them, I decided to ball up to age them a bit more. You simply scrunch the paper into a ball. Then you unroll it. Where the wrinkles are, get more of the shoe polish. I let them dry overnight. But I think it would be safe to give them just a couple of hours,
Once I was sure they were dry, I decorated them with whatever I had in my stash, I was very happy with the results,, I will be using these on journal pages and scrapbook pages,
Here is the final result. What do you think? |
