There are some crafts that you really can get hands on and into. This is one of those projects. It felt like when I was a child and was finger painting. It was fun, joyful and inspiring. This is a perfect technique for a base page for your altered books or journals. Remember, the point of an art is that you are expressing yourself. There is no right or wrong way, only your way !
Supplies
- A gelli plate or a piece of corrugated cardboard
- Acrylic paints in assorted colors
- A brayer
- Some tissue paper
- Baby or disinfected wipes
- A paint brush
- A book or a journal
For starts you need to know that acrylic paint dries very fast so you need to work quickly. The gelli plate will give a flat even look while the cardboard will have some texture to the design.
1. Squirt some acrylic paint on the cardboard or gelli plate. Have fun and mix colors. You can even use metallic acrylic paints. Use your brayer to spread the paint in the design of your choice.
2. Press the tissue paper on top of the paint. Gently ptrss the paper onto the paint with your hands.
3, Remove the paper. Press the paper on the surface if you want to add more paint.
4, Set the paper aside to dry. It should dry fairly quickly.
5. Add more paint to the surface and repeat the procedure.
6. After all the pages dry, you can apply the tissue paper to your journal pages with Mod Podge or any decoupage medium.
7. Put a layer of medium on the paper of the page. Rip the tissue paper to fit your page. Feel free to use different colors. Place the tissue paper on top of the glue covered page.
8. Spread an even coat of medium on top of the tissue paper and allow to dry. Add as many layers of paper as you want to create your design.
9. Decorate your pages with stencils, stamps, raised medium, images or whatever strikes your fancy.
- You can clean your brayer with a wipe in between colors or you can get a mix of color. It is totally up to you.
- Ripping the layers of tissue gets a textured look.
- The end result of your paper project is a leather like look.
- Crumple your tissue paper to add texture.
- Use dark color paint-tap it on your finished page to give a splattered look.
- You will want to cover your workspace with a craft mat.
