Craft Knife Tips

Here is today's Tuesday Tip. It is about craft knives. Kraft knives are a tool that most paper crafters have in their stash. Here are a few tips when using your craft knife.

Safety First: Make sure to keep the knife covered with the knife cover when not in use so that you do not accidentally grab it and cut yourself. Store it with the blade down so there is no chance of an accident. Covers can pop off.  If you have children in the house make sure to keep your blades and scissors in a secure place, away from little hands.

Always Cut Away From Your Body. One slip of the hand can cause major injuries.

Use A Cutting Mat. A cutting mat is a tool that you should have if you are planning to cut with any kind of blade. It protects your work surface from getting nicks and cuts.

Change Blades Often: You need to change your blades often to                                                            make sure that you have a sharp edge to cut with.   the blade is secure and tight in the shaft. A dull blade makes rough cut and slips are more likely to happen. Things like thicker paper. self-healing mats, metal surfaces, heavy cardboard, and rough materials will dull your blades faster.

Watch The Amount Of Pressure You Put On The Blade:  Do not apply too much pressure. The tip of the blade will break easier and slips that can cause accidents are going to happen more often. Apply just enough pressure to cut through the material.

Dispose Your Blades Carefully: Never place them directly in garbage bag. It will but through the bag and may cut whoever handles it. Wrap the blade with tape or dispose it in a soda can so no one will get hurt.

Using A Ruler To Guide Your Blade: Make sure not to let your hand or fingers hang over the ruler. You could easily but off the tips of your fingers.

Use Multiple Shorter Cuts.
Shorter cuts give you better control of the knife.

These common sense tips will help your knife cutting experience be more productive and safer.
