All About Layering

Recently, I joined a a class called the Altenew Educator Certification Program. It was an honor to be chosen for this program. These classes focus on techniques that actually challenge you to grow in your knowledge. Hopefully, as time goes on, I will be sharing some of these ideas in the future to our growing community. I will be posting my projects (assignments) from my class. Hopefully, some of these projects will inspire you as well. All About Layering One of the things that I can share with you is about the quality of the stamps that I have been working with. The layered sets, which was my first class, make me happy and give lots of confidence when creating layered stamping projects. I think one of the finest parts of this stamp set called Golden Garden is the fact that it comes with a direction guide. This guide helps you understand and place the layers exactly where they should be. I love the whimsical look to these images. I can see myself using them to create scrapbook page...

Tea Bag Pockets

I love my tea. I have a cup everyday right around three p.m. Some teas come in little bags or pockets. They are little envelopes that the tea bags come in. I love using things from my kitchen to create something out left over stuff that would generally go into the trash. Today I have been recycling tea bag packages into pockets for my junk journals and scrapbook pages.  Red Rose tea bags some in envelopes. I also believe Twining tea also comes in envelopes.  Some of the tea that I drink have clear envelopes and some are paper. The paper ones are a little easier to work with. But the cellophane ones offer different opportunities.  This is a great project to use up all those bits of pretty patterned paper that you have been hoarding. The tea bag pockets could be used to hold some small journaling or a card. This is a great recycling craft that can use up all those odds and ends that you have in your stash.  While You Are At It Save The Tea Bag! Hopefully, you are a tea...

Matting And Layering On Card Bases

Multi Layered Stamped Card  Making layers on your card bases gives your cards more dimension. Adding layers of solid and printed paper adds dimension, but also adds color. The principles of matting and layering are simply to fix papers on top of each other, usually from largest to smallest.  Starting with your card base, consider the amount of weight that you are planning for your card. Every element adds weight to your card, so consider using a quality paper like Neenah Solar white, my personal favorite for making card bases, I like to stick with anything in the 80–110-pound card stock weight. You are not limited to white of course. You can use any colored paper as well. When you consider that you could be layering four or more papers this is quite a lot of paper that will not be seen. You can get round this by layering frames. Cutting out the parts of the paper that would ordinarily have been hidden. The squares that were removed to make the apertures can then be used on oth...

Artist Trading Card Basics

Artist trading cards are miniature pieces of art Artist Trading Card Basics There are a few things that all artist trading cards have in common. They are often referred to as ATCS. Each of the cards are 2.5" by 3.5".  They are a similar size as a baseball card or a playing card. Each card is a unique piece of art that is titled, signed and dated by the artist. There are three recognized types of ATC cards: One-off – an individual one-off card Series – a few cards that are on one theme, usually numbered – 1 of 3, 1/3 or similar. Edition – two or more cards that were created to look the same. Any technique that you could do on an art journal page, or a junk journal page can be done on an ATC Think of techniques that involve paint, stamping, embossing, foiling and a lot more. There is so much that you can do with artist trading cards. The sky is the limit and best of all there is no rules. Yes, you can trade them. There are groups on Facebook and on the internet. It is fun to ge...

Sometimes, you would like to heat emboss in a color that you may not have the embossing powder for. There is an easy and quick remedy for that situation. I keep lots of clear embossing powder on hand just in case I am stuck without the right color embossing powder. This technique gives you a lot more options when your collection of embossing powders may be limited. Let's Start With Some Heat Embossing Basics If you have never heat embossed or found the process less than satisfactory, we are going to break down the basics for you today and then move into one of my favorite techniques-heat embossing in colors.
