Layered Heat Embossing

Today we are talking about heat embossing but in a different way than you might think. Hello and welcome to my journey as I learn, grow and share new techniques and ideas from the Altenew Educator program.  This technique would also be lovely to use on your scrapbook pages and journals. Today instead of just standard heat embossing, we are talking about layered heat embossing. This technique while quite different is not difficult to master at all. The results can be very rewarding, and it gives you a new prospective on using your embossing powders and supplies. Let's get started. I am excited to share these projects with you today.  The first thing that you need to consider is the stamp set and or die set that you may want to use. Any layered stamp set that you may have will work for this technique. For my project, I chose the Dahlia Blossom Stamp Set. I love the detail and the flowers in this set. It also comes with a sentiment that I find very useful. But feel free to mix yo...

Creative Watercolor Greeting Cards

Today's tutorial is all about being creative with media that you might not think about using to create colorful and exciting greeting cards. Once again, welcome to my journey as I move through the Altenew Educator classes. I love sharing my journey with you. That was the purpose of my going through this program. I wanted to be able to share new techniques and ideas with the community.  The media that I am sharing today is the Altenew reinkers. Have you ever thought about using reinkers as a color medium? Any reinkers are good for this technique. But for me, I have found that the Altenew reinkers have the most vibrant color options. All you will need are some reinkers, some paint brushes and some watercolor paper.  These cards use heat embossing to create a "cradle" or outline that allow you to use reinkers as watercolor mediums. You will want to use a good smooth watercolor paper to get the best results.  You will want to have a "well" to color in, so each of th...

Heat Embossing In Color

Sometimes, you would like to heat emboss in a color that you may not have the embossing powder for. There is an easy and quick remedy for that situation. I keep lots of clear embossing powder on hand just in case I am stuck without the right color embossing powder. This technique gives you a lot more options when your collection of embossing powders may be limited. Let's Start With Some Heat Embossing Basics If you have never heat embossed or found the process less than satisfactory, we are going to break down the basics for you today and then move into one of my favorite techniques-heat embossing in colors. There are only a few things that you need to do heat embossing. Embossing Powder- The embossing powder is medium that is melted over a stamped image to create a two-dimensional effect of your projects. It comes in clear, white, colors and metallics. They are sold as single jars or in packages of three.  Heat tool (heat gun) -A heat gun is used to melt the powder that is us...

Versa Mark Ink Technques

Versa Mark ink is one of the staples that should be in all stampers supply box. As always, we recommend that you have the ink refresher on hand to renew your pad as needed. What is Versa Mark Ink? This ink helps you create a number of techniques because of it's properties. The ink is thicker, and somewhat sticky. This allows the ink to be used with embossing powders. It dries slowly which gives you time to create a number of fun, unique images. It is a clear ink which makes it very versatile. It comes in a standard size pad, a small cube and a pen for small areas. Of course there is a reinker . The pen is handy to have around to correct any messes or misses that you might have. Two tools that are essential to these techniques are very reasonable in price. The first one is a powder bag that is used to coat the paper before you start any embossing techniques. That will help keep the powder on the stamped image and make the project much neater. The second product is an...
