Recently, I joined a a class called the Altenew Educator Certification Program. It was an honor to be chosen for this program. These classes focus on techniques that actually challenge you to grow in your knowledge. Hopefully, as time goes on, I will be sharing some of these ideas in the future to our growing community. I will be posting my projects (assignments) from my class. Hopefully, some of these projects will inspire you as well.
All About Layering
One of the things that I can share with you is about the quality of the stamps that I have been working with. The layered sets, which was my first class, make me happy and give lots of confidence when creating layered stamping projects. I think one of the finest parts of this stamp set called Golden Garden is the fact that it comes with a direction guide. This guide helps you understand and place the layers exactly where they should be. I love the whimsical look to these images. I can see myself using them to create scrapbook pages and other projects.
Layering stamp sets include several stamps that allow you to add detail. You use a color family to create more detail with each time. A color family is a set of ink colors that has several shades of a color from lightest to darkest.
Your start with your lightest color on the base stamp, then with each additional stamp you add a darker color and more detail. The sets can go from 2 stamps up to even 6 or seven.
Creating A Simple Layered Card
I love the simplicity of this stamp set. You could use them in almost any color you can imagine. I think this set would be perfect for a sympathy card or a get-well card too. There are so many combinations that could be created. I know that I will be using them over and over again.
All you will need to create this stamp set as I did is a black ink and one additional color. You will also need some card stock and a card form in the size of your choice.
There are only a few steps to create a card using the layered stamp sets:
- Cut a card front for your card- You can cut it to the card form size or cut it down for layers.
- Stamp the outline images on your card front. Start with the largest and fill in with smaller stamps.
- Stamp the second layer following the stamping guide in the color of your choice.
- Add a sentiment to your card, I like to use foam dots to raise the sentiment above the card front!
- Adhere your layers to the card base with double sided tape.
I learned so much from this class and I am inspired to move forward. Who knew that layering stamps could be so easy once you understood how to use them?
Can you see yourself creating this card? It is easier than you can imagine. Why not give it a try!

I love the panel without all the layers. It highlighted your stamping and the details beautifully! Congrats on your first post for AECP!
