Adding Envelopes To Art Journals

When you get mail every day, there are envelopes that hold something meant just for you. Sometimes, they contain something special like a letter from a dear friend or a card to celebrate a special occasion. Other times it is an obligation for something that is due and needs to be taken care of. Whatever is in your mail is special because the envelope contains a "secret" meant only for you.

I love envelopes. They have held some special memories for me. They come in some delightful colors, shapes and sizes. They always have some meaning. Why not consider using them to hold something special in your art journal pages.

Whenever I see an envelope I want to open it to see what is inside. So, I like to place some in my art journal.

I treasure the cards that I have been given. Especially from those who have passed on. It gives me pleasure to recall them by seeing their writing and the thoughts in their. One of my future art journals will be just that pages about my friends and family. They will include envelopes with cards that they have given me. It will be all about my memories of them.


  1. Collect some envelopes from the mail that you receive every day. They can be return envelopes that have windows in them, they can be card envelopes, they can be the envelopes that held the mail. All of them can be used to hold something special that you would like keep within your journal.
  2. Check to see if you have envelopes from old cards that you might be storing. What a great way to remember someone special in your life
  3. Ask friends and family to start saving interesting envelopes for you. You never know what they might come up with
  4. Gather envelopes like a collection for your art journal. I especially love envelopes that come in colors. They add so much to the theme of my pages
  5. Sort them by size. Generally speaking, you want the envelope to fit on your journal page, not stick out of it
  6. Practice positioning the envelope in different ways on your page before you glue or tape it onto the page.
  7. Decide if you want the front of the envelope or the back to be on your page.
  8. If your art journal is small and you want to use the envelope as a page, remove a page from the journal and use it as a guide to punch holes on the envelope. then place both pages back in your journal.
  9. Decorate the envelope before you place it on the journal page. You can stamp it, add stickers to it, place any kind of embellishment on it. It's up to you.
  10. You can use colorful washi tape to hold your envelopes in your art journal pages
I hope that you consider adding envelopes to your art journal. They can be creative and beautiful additions to your pages. You can also use them in your Bible journals, and prayer journals.
