Paper Organization-Tips And Ideas

My card stock organization-vertical ahelves

One of the first project that you can take on is your paper organization. This is a big project, but one that can be very rewarding.

There are many ways to store your paper. You need to adapt the suggestions for your needs. Your paper organization might just be a few tweaks or it may be a full project. Are you happy where your paper is stored? Can you find your paper easily? If all that applies to you, then it is time to get organized. When you get this project done, you will find that you have more and efficient craft time.

Paper Storage Tips:
  • Zip lock page are your friend. You can use them to contain any kind of paper !
  • I am a visual person. So I like to label everything. You can make labels on your electronic cutting machine or use a label maker. Just saves time when I am in a rush.

Step One

The first step that you need to do is to gather all the paper that you have.
  1. Gather all your paper, your scrap paper, every piece of printed and color paper as well as paper pads. Find a place in your home where you can spread out the paper to get started.
  2. Make four piles for the moment. One pile is for scrap paper. One pile is for printed paper. Another pile is for colored paper and the fourth pile is for paper pads.

Step Two

Now it is time to purge. I know that it is difficult to throw paper away. I feel the pain. But in order to get organized, you need to get rid of paper that you have had laying around that you know you will never use.I found some ugly paper recently, I have no idea why I ever purchased it.

So, go through your piles and discard any paper or scraps that you know you will not use.

Step Three

So now it is time to separate your files even further. Your decision may be different than my method. Always adapt your system to your space and the number of supplies that you have. I would start by dividing my papers into different colors. And then I would divide them by size. Scrap paper I do not divide by color. It is only divided by color.

One shelf has 12" by 12" paper divided it by color with printed paper of the same color in a large baggie.
One shelf has 81/2 " by 11" paper with divided by color with same size printed paper in zip lock bags.
The third shelf has all my scrap paper divided by color in large snap plastic envelopes.

I do not have much 6" by 6" paper, so I put it with my 8.5 by 11-inch paper.

One of the mistakes that I made was to separate my paper pads. I do not do that anymore. I keep paper pads together. The reason that I do not separate these pads because they are already coordinated. So, it is easy when I design to keep those pads together.

Step Four

Scrap paper sorted by size
Decide on the storage for your papers, There are many options for storing your paper as well as products that will help you do just that. Look at your space and decide where you are going to store your paper, Then decide how you will store it
So the first question is where in your craft space will you place your paper? Are you a light weight or a heavy weight when it comes to the amount of paper that you have? Is there a space that you could use better? or do you need a free standing unit? These are all questions that you can figure out between  your needs and wants,

Beyond Basic Backgrounds

Today we are exploring back grounds for greeting cards using stamps and coordinating dies with embossing powders to create a totally different look. Welcome to another community tutorial as I take my journey through the Altenew Educator Class. I have to say that I love the soft look of these greeting cards.  For this technique you will need a stamp set with the coordinating dies. You will actually create a stencil using the dies for the image that you are using on your background. To create this stencil, you will want to use a heavy white cardstock, at least 90 Lbs. or more. That way, you will be able to use the stencil again. You also will want to make the stencil a bit larger than the actual card base. Overlapping will give you the best results. The project that I am focusing on is a more intricate stamp set called. Climbing Clematis.  There are actually 6 layers to the main flowers and several layers to each of the coordinating flowers. The coordinating flowers add a natural touch to the design.  Here are some of the techniques that I am focusing on for this tutorial: All About Layering 1-5 All About Layering Dies Edition Layering Guides Layering gu...

Cute Unicorn Card

Today I need to create a bright and cheerful birthday card for my great granddaughter who is turning three. I wanted something that would express her great grandpa's and my love for her. We also wanted something that would catch her attention. The stamp set was one that I got from a magazine. It was one of those sets that often is included when you get stamping magazines. So, I am unable to identify it. It also had the hearts, flowers and a mouse and dolphin (more about the dolphin on another day. The set also had some dies for the animals, but not for the flowers.
