Full Deck Challenge #2

It is all about texture paste

We are on day 2 of the full deck challenge and it is all about texture paste.

The Full Deck Challenge is a journey where you do 52 different techniques. Wach of these techniques helps you learn and grow as a paper crafter. You learn as you go along. You use a deck of playing cards as the base for creating each artist trading card. By the time you are done you will have added 52 ATC cards that you can collect or trade. The nice thing about this challenge is that you get to use all those odds and ends in your stash.

Make Your Own Texture Paste

Supplies
  • Gesso
  • Baby Powder or other non-scented powder
  • Palette knife
  • Craft mat or a piece of parchment paper.
  1. Place the craft mat or parchment paper on your work surface.
  2. Place the gesso on the mat or parchment paper.
  3. Add the baby powder.
  4. Mix with the palette knife.
  5. Keep adding baby powder and gesso until you get the consistency that you want.
  6. Appy to your trading card
  7. Give it time to air dry.

Here are a few tips to help you along as you give this technique a try:

  • In the original, they used cheesecloth on their project. I used dryer sheets instead. I keep my used dryer sheets to be recycled in my journals.
  • Instead of oxide inks, you can use shoe polish instead. It might take a little longer to dry, but I think that I got great results.

Remember, this is about using and learning new techniques and ideas. You can adapt and change your cards any way that you want. Have fun with the process!

I hope that you will give this technique a try. As we often say, your art, your way!

Until next time, Happy Crafting!
